Iron Orchid from Burma

Dear friends,

yesterday i watched an incredible movie - 'The Lady'. Somehow i can't stop thinking about it and the story of a tiny and beautifully strong woman with name Aung San Suu Kyi (short name Suu).

Suu was born in a small country Burma, which suffered severe regimes of military hunta, and the country was struggling a lot to find its way to democracy.  Her father was a first Burmese leader to build the way to democracy, but he was killed, and the family had to move from the country. For 20 years Suu was living in Great Britain, raising her children, having a happy marriage with a British professor.

But the calling of destiny and her desparate country put her on the road to home, where she is needed, where her people trust her and give her their last hope. Suu becomes a leader of first democratic party in the country, travels and meets people of Burma, takes part in first elections. The regime of Burma doesn't recognize the results of elections, puts her under home arrest and doesn't let to see her husband and children. She stays under arrest for 20 years. Meanwhile her husband dies without a chance to meet his wife, she receives the Nobel Peace Prize and is recognized as the strongest woman leader in the world - Iron Orchid.

The film story deeply moved me and reminded me of 3 important principles:

1) I believe in the power of love and devotion. The deep love and devotion of Suu to the country above everything gave her strenghth to overcome all the failures and despair (in particular death of her husband).

2) If you'd be asked to choose between husband, family and your country, what would you choose? This is very cruel question, and i wish noone ever to be asked it. Suu chooses her country, and support of her family is the biggest gift of her life.

3) We're all responsible for the well-being of our country. Even if we're far away, even if we have scare resources. Our country needs our talent, our values, our leadership. This is the responsibility of a lifetime. I believe that being a global citizen  we can be of 100% commitment to our motherland. This is a call of our grandparents and our heroes who left our country so beautiful for us.
